RTU Support Frames — Amazon Distribution Center, Ocala FL
An RTU frame is the steel a rooftop HVAC unit sits on. The unit can weigh several thousand pounds, and that load has to reach the building's structure — not the roof deck. We built and welded 85 of them here, plus the jamb and header steel framing three oversized door openings, where the wall alone will not carry the door.
The building was live with other trades from May through late July, so the work ran around them: steel set with a telehandler, welding from scissor lifts, engine-driven machines on the slab. Stick welding handles mill scale, imperfect fit-up and the draft coming through open dock doors.
Ocala is a couple of hours north of our base in Tampa Bay. We travel for commercial and industrial work.
